Chebika, about 53 kilometres from Tozeur, is the best-known of these oases. It stands out for its spectacular views, its traditional stone and adobe houses nestled into the mountainside, and its beautiful palm grove. Near the village, a natural waterfall springs to life, the true lifeline of the oasis, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding desert landscape.
Tamerza, located 14 kilometres north of Chebika, is the largest oasis in the area. Its old town is now abandoned, giving the place a mysterious and evocative atmosphere. Tamerza boasts several stunning waterfalls, lovely gardens and spectacular mountain gorges whose colours change with the light of the sun. During the Byzantine period, it was an important Christian bishopric.
Midès is a small and charming village perched above an oasis, on the edge of a deep gorge. From here, visitors can admire a ravine over 60 metres deep, offering one of the most dramatic views in the entire region. Its privileged location makes it a unique destination for lovers of nature and photography.
Visiting these mountain oases is one of the most impressive experiences in southern Tunisia, a perfect combination of nature, history and traditional life in an absolutely unforgettable setting.
